Monroe County commissioners on Thursday approved an Indiana Department of Transportation agreement to replace Eagleson Bridge (No. 922) on the Indiana University campus.
County staff said the INDOT-funded letting is scheduled for January and construction is planned for the 2026 season. The agreement shown to commissioners listed construction funding of $976,146 from county cumulative bridge fund 1135 with a required local match noted in the agenda item.
County engineering staff described how the county assumed ownership of the bridge in coordination with INDOT and that Indiana University donated right-of-way that reduced overall costs. Staff also noted a trade in which INDOT provided funds for an unrelated Karst Trail extension that left the county ahead on the ledger, according to the county presentation.
The project team reported ongoing coordination among Indiana University, the City of Bloomington and the county, including recent on-site meetings to plan closures, utility coordination and traffic impacts tied to upgrades of a nearby intersection. Commissioners asked about scheduling and were told stakeholders have coordinated timetables to minimize disruption.
The board voted 3-0 to approve the INDOT agreement for the Eagleson Bridge replacement.
