Committee OKs quitclaim deed returning small Marathon Park parcel to county
Summary

The Infrastructure and Facilities Committee approved a motion directing staff to prepare a quitclaim deed transferring a narrow parcel in the southwest corner of Marathon Park back to Marathon County.
Jamie Polley of the Parks Department explained the transfer as a “housekeeping” correction. Polley told the committee the parcel in question has been shown inconsistently on county GIS and historical deeds. According to Polley’s review, the parcel had been deeded among the county, city and an agricultural society in the late 1800s, and a small sliver never returned to the county along with the larger park parcel.
Polley said the county’s human resources and finance and property committee had reviewed the situation and supports the county accepting the sliver if the city will quitclaim it back. Chair Henke and committee members described the requested deed as routine; Alder Veil moved to approve the quitclaim and Alder Larson seconded. The committee approved the motion 4‑0.
What happens next: Staff will prepare the quitclaim deed for city council consideration; if the council approves, the county board would then accept the parcel and update county records.
