City posts Idaho stop PSA video as committee seeks public outreach

Chair Michael Garcia told the Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee on July 10 that the city has completed a public-service video explaining the Idaho stop law (SB 72) and that the city will post and promote the video on social media and the city’s YouTube channel.
Garcia said the video explains the law—allowing cyclists at stop signs to treat them as yield signs and defining duties at red lights—and includes supporting data such as injury reductions from other states. “We have completed its PSA video for the, SB 72, the Idaho stop law that went into effect,” Garcia said. He asked staff to share the link with BPAC and Bike Santa Fe so community groups can include it in outreach.
Bike Santa Fe board member Aria said the advocacy group would continue education work, including distributing a succinct pamphlet and linking resources; BPAC’s promotions subcommittee said it will consider radio spots and other outreach. Garcia and committee members emphasized advance education to reduce confusion as riders and drivers adjust to the law.
The committee did not take formal action but discussed coordinating communications and ensuring a clear online resource hub for residents. The video is posted on the city’s official YouTube channel; staff will share the link with committee members and Bike Santa Fe for broader distribution.
