Parks staff reported July 11 that a modular building’s internet connection is installed and delivering surprisingly good signal inside the metal structure, restoration plantings in wetlands and prairie areas are flourishing, and crews are doing maintenance work ahead of several large July events.
Parks staff said, “It is up. It is running. It, has good signal on the inside of that metal building, which we're really surprised about.” They also reported the delivery of an accessibility ramp that has not yet been finished, and said staff repaired a John Deere vehicle and are sending a county Ram 1500 to a mechanic to diagnose a water leak near the water pump.
Staff described habitat restoration in multiple park areas: “That was all cedar … two years ago … the purple are, campanella, which is tall bell flowers” and noted areas that were previously covered by honeysuckle and autumn olive are returning to prairie and woodland plantings. Crews have been mowing trails, doing brush cutting and will perform weed‑whipping at Shabana park in the coming week.
On events, parks staff said the department has three major July events and described them in the meeting as “the 20 fifth, the 20 sixth, and then then another 1 on the 20 seventh.” Staff asked committee members to visit the park and see the restoration work.
Ending: Committee members asked whether recent handicap parking concrete was completed; parks staff confirmed the concrete work is finished and provided photos to the committee.
