Commission adopts ‘Berkeley County Goes Purple’ and Independence Day proclamations

The commission unanimously approved a ‘Berkeley County Goes Purple’ proclamation presented by Tara Mason, founder and executive director of the Hope Dealer Project. Mason described the statewide initiative to mark National Recovery Month and invited the county to join by lighting landmarks and wearing purple during September to raise awareness of recovery and overdose prevention.
The commission also approved an Independence Day proclamation presented by Deborah Hammond, regent of the William Henshall chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Hammond described DAR’s historic-preservation and education missions and presented the proclamation recognizing July 4, 2025 as Independence Day in Berkeley County.
Both proclamations were approved by voice vote after presentations from the respective presenters. The meeting record does not require further action beyond proclamation adoption; no county funds or program obligations were attached to either proclamation in the presentation.
