Summary
The Zoning Board approved an application to add a new second floor and rear addition to a single-family house at a Colte property (application 25099) with conditions limiting enclosure of the front roofed stoop and restricting the basement bathroom to a two-piece and undivided space.
The Town of Babylon Zoning Board of Appeals on July 10 approved application 25099 for an addition at a property in Colte owned by Jose Tavares, subject to three conditions set by the board.
Architect or representative Jose Tavares said his client bought the house with an existing roofed front stoop and is proposing a single-story second-floor addition and a rear expansion to enlarge bedrooms for a growing family. The board confirmed the project is intended to remain a single-family home and that the existing side entrance to the basement would remain.
Board member moved to approve the application with three conditions: the front roofed stoop not be enclosed, the basement remain an open undivided area, and only a two-piece bathroom be permitted in the basement. The motion passed on voice vote. The board instructed counsel to confirm conditions with the applicant before finalizing the decision.
Documents entered into the record included a planning division memo dated 06/30/2025, an environmental-control memo dated 07/08/2025 and a survey dated 09/02/2022. The board recorded the approval and said the applicant should confirm compliance with the conditions.
