Lewisburg council denies annexation of 0.75-mile section of Globe Road

The Lewisburg City Council voted to deny a request from the Marshall County Highway Department to annex roughly 0.75 miles of Globe Road into the city and separately denied the accompanying plan of services.

Council took up the item after the Planning Commission gave an unfavorable recommendation, 0-5. The annexation request covered the portion of Globe Road described as from the north starting point of the current city limits, going south approximately 0.75 miles to the end of unaddressed Globe Road (Map 069, Parcel 055). The owner listed on the request was Marsh[all] County Highway Department / Marshall County Government.

During the meeting a council member noted that an annexation requires affirmative action — it must be approved or denied rather than simply failing for lack of motion. Councilwoman Thomas moved to deny the annexation and Councilman Crutcher seconded the motion; the roll call resulted in a vote to deny. The council then took a separate vote to deny the plan of services tied to the annexation and the motion carried.
