County staff report renewed activity on Blue Star project; financing application sent to U.S. Department of Energy

County staff reported renewed activity around the Blue Star project during the June 30 Wythe County Board of Supervisors meeting, saying the company has submitted a financing application to the U.S. Department of Energy and that county leaders are monitoring ongoing conversations.
Mr. Manley told the board that he and county staff continue weekly conversations with Blue Star’s CEO and CFO and that the company is “currently engaged in a financing application with the U.S. Department of Energy.” Manley said the county sent a letter of support for that application the same morning and described increased communication over the past 30–60 days as a positive sign.
County staff also reported receiving nearly $3.9 million in reimbursement from BEDP last week for infrastructure improvements tied to the Blue Star project; the payment has been deposited in county accounts, staff said.
“There's some spark of hope there and we're monitoring it carefully,” Manley said. He told the board the conversations appear to be occurring at high levels of government and that any movement is viewed as positive.
Board members asked the county to continue regular updates. No formal action was taken on Blue Star at the June 30 meeting beyond acceptance of the reimbursement and the staff update.
