Summary
Commissioners approved use of a state-compliant reverse-auction procurement to acquire two used Class 8 day-cab semi trucks (model year 2018 or newer) for Randall County Fire Department; trucks will replace a crash-damaged unit and an aging 1985 truck.
Randall County Commissioners Court on May 27 approved the county's use of a reverse-auction procurement platform to purchase two used semi trucks for the fire department.
The purchases respond to one truck damaged beyond repair in a traffic accident and a second utility truck that dates to 1985 and is increasingly expensive to maintain, department staff said. The county specified requirements for Class 8 day-cab tractors (2018 or newer, specified engine and transmission characteristics and towing capacity) and will publish the opportunity via the county's reverse-auction vendor and in the Amarillo Globe-News.
The reverse-auction format allows prospective sellers and local truck centers to submit and lower prices in a live online bidding environment; staff said the method meets state procurement rules for the purchase given available options. Commissioners agreed the department would outfit any purchased trucks minimally for fire-service needs (radio and related equipment) and not equip them for emergency lights and sirens.
The court approved the procurement process 4-0 and directed staff to proceed with advertisements and vendor notifications.
