Galveston County Commissioners Court voted 4-0 on June 9, 2025, to adopt a new Parks, Recreation and Open Space Master Plan; county staff said the plan helps maintain grant eligibility and was developed with consultant Asakura Robinson over about a year.
Galveston County Commissioners Court voted 4-0 on June 9, 2025, to approve and adopt the Galveston County Parks and Recreation and Open Space Master Plan. A county parks staff member said the plan "is something we have to do every year to stay eligible for grants in the state and across the nation."
County parks staff told the court the plan was prepared with consultant Asakura Robinson and that it introduced several new ideas for county parks and cultural services. "They did a really great job bringing some new innovative ideas to the table," the parks staff member said, and thanked county staff for work on the document, which the presenter said took "a little over a year" to complete. Commissioner Sport was thanked during remarks for continued support of the Parks and Cultural Services department.
The court approved the resolution by voice vote, recorded as 4-0, with one commissioner absent. No public comment was offered during the brief public meeting on the master plan. The adopted plan will serve as the county's guiding document for parks, recreation and open-space priorities and, by staff account, for maintaining eligibility for grant programs that support parks projects.
