The Holland City Council voted to approve a Public Act 198 tax abatement request for Atlas Headrest LLC, a family‑owned designer and manufacturer of ergonomic headrests that plans to expand into space at 72 West 60 Fourth Street.
Community and Neighborhood Services Director Mark Myers introduced the application; staff said the project includes nearly $1,700,000 in real property investment and the company will occupy about 19,000 square feet. The company told council it will retain 15 full‑time jobs and add five additional full‑time positions within two years.
Nut graf: Supporters said the abatement will help a local manufacturer expand operations and jobs in Holland; council approved the request without public opposition at the hearing.
Company representatives answered council questions on employment and wages. A company spokesperson said the typical production employee works four 10‑hour days per week and “They make, on average about $20 per hour.” The city also noted Lakeshore Advantage assisted with the IFT application.
Councilmember Soule moved approval; Councilmember Freeman supported the motion. After no public comment, Brenda called the roll and recorded unanimous yes votes from council members present. Mayor Nathan Bock declared the motion carried.
Ending: The abatement clears the way for Atlas Headrest to occupy the leased space and begin the documented expansion; company and city staff will proceed with whatever implementation steps are required under the PA 198 approval.
