During the board’s discussion, a supervisor said the people of Cumberland “don't want another Dollar General,” expressing opposition to setting a hearing, and another supervisor later said they voted against setting the hearing. The motion to set the public hearing carried, with one supervisor recorded voting “No” and the remaining supervisors voting to set the hearing.
Resident Betty Myers raised an unrelated but procedural concern earlier in the meeting about an error in the board packet’s description of the rezoning parcel’s road names, noting one referenced road name did not match her local knowledge. County staff did not dispute the comment but used the formal map and parcel data for the rezoning filing.
The board’s action only sets the date for a public hearing; no rezoning decision was made at the June 10 meeting. The public hearing will allow residents to comment before any vote on the rezoning.
