Traffic Authority approves three temporary closures for Sono Saturday market series

The Norwalk City Traffic Authority on July 10 approved temporary street closures for a new Sono Saturday market series set for July 26, Aug. 30 and Sept. 27, with closures scheduled from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on each date.

Yang, a staff member, said the closures will match the route used for the holiday extravaganza: from the Webster Street lot entrance on Washington Street to the train bridge at the end of Washington Street. Yang said Madison Street will be closed to general traffic while remaining open to employees and local traffic; no buses will use the closed segment.

“This closure will be the same, closure as the holiday extravaganza. So, closing from the Webster Street lot entrance on Washington Street to the end, the train bridge at the end of, Washington Street there and closing off, Madison Street, but keeping it open for, their employees and any local traffic,” Yang said.

Commissioner Lopez moved the item. Commissioners voted by voice and the motion carried; the record shows approval without recorded dissent. Staff said businesses affected, including Safavilla, will be notified in advance; Yang stated notifications were planned to go out the same day or the following day.

Officials described the market as a new monthly series that began in June without street closures, using the lawn at 50 Washington. Speakers emphasized they would notify nearby businesses in advance to avoid the confusion that occurred earlier in the season.

No new traffic detours beyond the described closures were proposed during the meeting.
