Revere Local Board creates two central-office director posts and appoints Marcia Roach and Nikki Campbell

The Revere Local Board of Education approved new administrative positions and named two district directors during its July 8 work session at the Revere Administration Building.

The board voted to create a director of curriculum and instruction and a director of operations, and approved appointments of Marcia Roach as director of curriculum and instruction and Nikki Campbell as director of operations, each for three-year terms beginning Aug. 1, 2025. The board also approved up to five transition days this July for incoming directors and cleared a group of resignations and hires as part of a consent package.

Board members said the changes follow recent retirements and a decision not to refill some prior central-office posts. "We will not replace the assistant superintendent, the coordinator of curriculum and instruction, nor the director of human resources positions," a board presenter said, and said the responsibilities formerly held by those roles will be shared among the new directors, the superintendent's office and the treasurer's office.

Under the board-approved job descriptions, the director of operations will absorb functions that had reported to the assistant superintendent, including oversight of food services, transportation, buildings and grounds; participation in evaluations of principals; management of classified hiring; and serving as the district’s Title IX coordinator. "Part of the director of operations, we've taken some of the things like our assistant superintendent did," a presenter said.

The director of curriculum and instruction role restores duties that had been absorbed previously by an assistant superintendent, the board heard. The director will serve as district test coordinator, lead professional development and oversee curriculum work across buildings. In remarks to the board, a speaker who introduced Roach noted her work leading district curriculum changes and professional development and said she had completed dyslexia and science-of-reading modules personally to support staff.

The board approved the appointments and job descriptions by voice and roll-call vote. Members recorded as saying "yes" during roll calls include Mr. Verdin, Ms. Brackett, Mr. Hyde, Mr. Malik and Ms. Rainey. The motions were made and seconded during the meeting; the transcript records the approvals but does not show a named mover for every motion.

Also approved on consent were personnel items the board said are routine at this time of year: up to five transition days for new directors (Bill Conley and the two newly named directors), resignations (including Sarah Wright, student services coordinator; Becky Talahini, intervention specialist; and Lisa Evans, assistant to the treasurer), and hires that the district listed (including certificated hires shown in the packet as Emily Forrester and Jessica Welch to intervention specialist roles). The board discussed summer evaluation hours for speech-language pathologists and other student-services workload limits as part of routine staffing items.

Board members who spoke during the appointment presentations praised the appointees’ experience and accessibility. "She’s approachable, collaborative, and always seeks to build strong, trusting relationships with staff, families, and community members," one presenter said of Nikki Campbell, summarizing her prior roles and credentials.

The board previewed its July 15 draft agenda during the same session and said it expects to hold an executive session next week to discuss the employment of a public employee. The meeting moved to executive session at the end of the public work session; no further public motions were taken after the executive session began.
