Planning and Zoning Commission continues Headwaters Academy hearing, sets July 30 special meeting

The Planning and Zoning Commission for the Village of Campton Hills voted to continue the public hearing on the Headwaters Academy special-use application and set a special meeting for 7 p.m. July 30 to resume consideration.

The continuation was announced after the commission said it received a written request from the petitioner to postpone. Chairman Frederick told the room, “the village has received a notification from the petitioner for Headwaters Academy to continue or postpone the public hearing,” and that the commission “will not be discussing it as a board and...the only thing we will do is we will vote to continue it.”

The move means the commission will not hear public comment on the Headwaters petition at the meeting where the continuation was made; public comment will be allowed at the rescheduled hearing if the petitioner is present. Commissioners discussed calendar availability before scheduling the special meeting; the commission’s next regular meeting remains Aug. 13.

A motion to continue the public hearing to July 30 was made and seconded; the commission carried the motion by voice vote. The motion text as stated on the record was to “continue July 30 the special meeting to consider the Headwaters (application) as a continuation of the public hearing for Headwaters Academy.” The meeting record shows no roll-call tally of individual yes/no votes, only that the motion carried.

Commissioners also discussed establishing additional meeting dates in August and September to provide room on the calendar for multiple potential petitions. Chairman Frederick proposed holding second and fourth Wednesdays (Aug. 13 and Aug. 27, Sept. 10 and Sept. 24) on a tentative basis; the commission said it would cancel any dates if no business required them. Commissioners noted that if no applications are ready in time, some of those dates may not be needed.

Earlier in the meeting the commission approved its previous meeting minutes with corrections to transcription errors and typographical mistakes. The commission discussed limitations of automated transcription software and the need to remove repeated words and misspellings from the draft minutes; a motion to approve the minutes as amended carried by voice vote.

Village Attorney Troy Wallace and staff confirmed meeting notices and materials will be posted on the village website. The commission said the petitioner provided several date options and that July 30 was acceptable to the applicant.
