Deputy Community Development Director Travis Bistro introduced the item and turned the presentation to Kalyn Brahms, chair of the Economic Development Commission. Brahms described the commission as a volunteer body and summarized priorities for 2025—6: reviewing the strategic framework, conducting LAHA housing program updates in third and fourth quarters of 2025, reviewing city financing applications, continuing business retention and expansion work, coordinating with Grow MN and the Burnsville Chamber Partnership, and pursuing community visioning when council direction is provided.
Brahms said ribbon cuttings and training remain ongoing tasks for the commission and said the commission would seek council direction for community visioning. Councilmembers voiced support for the commission—s expanded membership and work.
Councilmember Schulz moved to approve the work plan; Councilmember Workman seconded. The motion passed on a council voice vote.
Staff said they will continue to work with the commission on the strategic framework and LAHA spending plan and supported the commission—s role in reviewing financing applications and business retention efforts.
