Council hears history, remaining balances of CSX neighborhood fund and gate-fee payments

The Worcester City Council received a staff briefing on the neighborhood improvement fund established under the 2010 agreement tied to CSX's rail yard project and subsequent gate fees.

City officials reviewed how the original $5 million was allocated, projects that moved forward, and remaining balances for the three neighborhoods that were the fund's intended beneficiaries. Councilors asked when the neighborhood advisory committee last met and pushed for more transparent ongoing reporting and neighborhood input.

Of the $5 million, $1 million was earmarked for open space projects, and $3 million was spent on East Park and Holmes Field improvements (the Holmes Field allocation was later reshaped based on neighborhood feedback).
