The Worcester License Commission approved an entertainment permit for the National Night Out event at University Park, where organizers expect about 3,000 attendees and plan to deploy multiple public-safety agencies.

Officer Bec Amelio of the Worcester Police Department described the event as including a DJ, live horses and bounce houses, and said organizers will provide "4 portable toilets, 3 regular, 1 accessible" and will have "a ton of Worcester police and local police departments from the colleges and surrounding towns on-site. Emergency management will be there, EMS and Worcester Fire." Amelio estimated the crowd at about 3,000.

Commissioners approved the event without objection and thanked organizers; Sergeant Needham reported no issues from the police side. The commission reiterated that organizers must comply with inspectional and police requirements and that any amplified sound and staging must follow local permitting conditions.

The approval covers Tuesday, Aug. 5, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.; licensing staff noted that large events also trigger coordination with the Massachusetts Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission if alcohol service is planned and that organizers should confirm sanitary and emergency resources before the date.
