Chicopee School Committee adopts five‑priority strategic plan after districtwide outreach

The Chicopee School Committee voted unanimously on June 18 to adopt a strategic plan created after extensive community engagement and refined by a steering committee.
Consultant Rebecca “Becky” Mazer of the Collaborative for Educational Services presented the plan and said the process heard from roughly 2,000 survey respondents, about 250 secondary students and about 500 elementary students through classroom and community events. The steering committee distilled the input into a vision and five strategic priorities: caring and valuing students and staff; academics that inspire; family and community connections; effective operations; and equitable resources.
Why it matters: committee members said a short, community‑driven strategic plan gives the district a shared vision to guide budgets, school improvement plans and district goals.
Dr. Ware, the superintendent, told the committee the plan would be used to align the district’s goals, school improvement plans and administrative objectives. Becky Mazer said the steering group asked for a short, readable plan that “sounds like Chicopee” and reflects children’s experiences at all grade levels.
The motion to adopt the plan was made by committee member Grace Scofield; the roll call was 10–0 in favor.
What comes next: the plan includes a monitoring and evaluation section. Superintendent Ware said the district will roll the plan into school improvement plans and administrative goals this fall and provide progress monitoring to the committee.
