Morton awards $215,000 for rapid‑flashing beacons at three elementary schools

The Village Board of Trustees of Morton accepted a $215,000 bid on June 16 to install rectangular rapid flashing beacons (RRFBs) at Grundy, Letty Brown and Lincoln elementary schools.
Stan Gruber, public works representative, said the bid will fund improvements aimed at enhancing visibility at school crossings. In response to a trustee’s question about effectiveness, Gruber said he had heard positive feedback from Jefferson School, where officers and staff reported that flashing beacons draw drivers’ attention earlier and encourage lower approach speeds.
Trustees voted by roll call to accept the bid. The board did not add conditions to the award during the meeting.
