Morton approves school resource officer agreement with Morton Hills School District 709

The Village Board of Trustees of Morton approved a resolution on June 16 authorizing a school resource officer (SRO) agreement with the Board of Education of Morton Hills School District 709 that sets the district’s payment at approximately 75% of the officer’s cost for the 2024–25 school year.
The chief of police told the board that the 75% figure is derived from the officer spending about nine months per year in school and therefore not on patrol. The village said the district would pay $115,888.26 for the 2024–25 year under the agreement; the contract contains an automatic renewal clause increasing the rate by 3.5% annually.
The chief said the SRO program has been long‑standing and that the village historically paid for the officer. Trustees voted by roll call to approve the resolution; no amendments or conditions were attached during the discussion.
The agreement was described as a contract between the village, corporation counsel and the school district; a district representative, Dr. Sander, was noted as having participated in drafting the agreement.
