At a special-call Dawsonville City Council meeting, City Attorney Kevin Tallent presented a proposed purchase of a spring site that would cover up to eight acres at a price calculated at $28,500 per acre based on a recent appraisal.
The purchase matter matters because city staff described the parcel as a water-producing spring that could augment the municipal supply. "We have set this up to be for a maximum of 8 acres with a purchase price, based upon a calculation of the actual acreage purchase, which would be, I think, is $28,500 per acre," City Attorney Kevin Tallent said during the council discussion.
Tallent said the appraisal was performed by Penley and Penley. Utilities Director Jacob Barr discussed the site's production, saying a rough v‑notch weir estimate "should be close to a 100 gallons a minute, if not more." City Clerk Beverly Bannister told the council the earnest money check was ready to proceed to the seller.
Council Member Eells made a motion "to approve as presented," seconded by Council Member Kayla Phillips, and the mayor asked members to signify their votes. The transcript records the motion and second but does not provide a recorded tally or explicit statement of approval.
Tallent said that, if approved, the city would forward documents to the sellers for signature. The discussion included only those operational details; no additional funding sources, closing dates or conditions were specified on the record.
