A Lakewood resident told the City Council on Monday that tents have been occupied for years behind his home and that ongoing, unpermitted construction continues at a neighboring property, prompting calls to code enforcement.
“My neighbor has rented tents to the homeless for 4 and a half years,” said John Roselle, who identified himself during public comment. Roselle said he has reported the site repeatedly and that two stop‑work orders exist for 10116 U Lane Southwest, but he asked the council for more action because the conditions continue.
Council members asked staff for an update. Miss Krause said code enforcement and public works were “working on this right now” and that the illegal construction was an active process; she encouraged Roselle to provide photos and documentation to the city clerk, which Roselle offered at the meeting.
Council member Bokey asked staff to provide a status report so elected officials could offer qualitative feedback to the resident. “We’ll look into this and address it,” Krause said.
No formal council action was taken Monday; staff said they will investigate and report back to the council on enforcement activity and next steps.
