Committee approves short lists of firms for stormwater and sanitary engineering services

The Improvement and Services Committee on July 9 authorized the director of public works to enter into professional services agreements with multiple engineering firms on an as-needed basis: six firms for stormwater engineering and five firms for sanitary sewer work.
For stormwater services the city shortlisted Ayres, Grama, Hayne Associates, McMahon Associates, R.A. Smith and Strand Associates from 13 submissions. The roster will allow the city to request project proposals quickly for work such as green stormwater infrastructure projects, pond design or related studies.
For sanitary sewer engineering, 12 firms applied and staff narrowed the list to five top-rated firms: Brown and Caldwell, Grama, R.A. Smith, Milkey and Strand Associates. Staff said intended uses include lift-station upgrades, condition assessments and infiltration/inflow studies.
Staff described the selection criteria as qualifications of the proposed team, experience on similar projects, rate structure and the firm’s understanding of the city’s scope. Committee members approved both requests; motions passed on voice votes.
