Evergreen Elementary construction update: grand stair, classrooms and kitchen nearing completion

Evergreen Elementary Principal Sarah Thompson and Russ, a project superintendent with Nexus, gave a construction update describing interior and site work underway at the school and near-term milestones.

Russ said the new grand stair — created by cutting part of the former library and adding a wall — has reached a structural-inspection stage. "We have an inspection today for the welds. We have to have special inspections for, for structural purposes and third party testing. So when they stop out today, they're gonna inspect all the welds on this," he said. "If the welds pass, then we're gonna try and get the concrete poured on the steps this week, and then the the last piece of the stairwell, you have a decorative rail going around the whole opening. That is currently being fabricated and we should have it within the next few weeks."

Russ described the project's summer schedule and methods: "We got hot and heavy, we call these a summer slam, so when school gets out, you know, we basically go in with a lot of organized chaos, knock down walls, there's demolition, and then we start doing the put back." He said demolition began on day one and that this is about month three of the project.

On classroom renovations, Russ said work is moving into finish stages: "Paint's on the walls, ceilings are in, floors are starting next week, and then we have cabinets showing up as well. So there's you're gonna start to see your new classrooms next week." He also said the school's LMC has completed taping and will begin painting before putting finishes back in place.

Site and facility upgrades described include a revamped parking lot, new curbs and sidewalks, and additions to the playground. Russ highlighted a kitchen addition with larger cooling and freezing equipment and a new epoxy floor, saying the school cook is "very excited for her bigger freezer and bigger cooler."
