City Council accepts FY 2024 annual audit; auditor reports no significant findings

The City of Miami Gardens City Council accepted the city’s fiscal year 2024 annual audit during its July 9 meeting, after the auditor reported that the city met generally accepted auditing standards and that no significant disagreements with management arose.
Anthony Brunson of Anthony Brunson, PA, presented the audit and introduced Jean Borno, a partner who led the field work. Brunson said, “the city has satisfied all of those standards,” adding that the audit did not include operational or forensic reviews and that accounting practices were consistent with industry standards.
Brunson told the council the city maintains a “pretty strong internal control environment” and that one bookkeeping adjustment was necessary related to bond‑proceeds accounting after recent refinancing activity. He said there were no disagreements with management and no difficulties in completing the audit.
Following the presentation the council moved and seconded the resolution accepting the audit. The clerk recorded votes from Councilwoman Baskin, Councilwoman Leon, Councilwoman Powell, Councilwoman Wilson, Councilwoman Julian and Mayor Harris; the council approved the resolution 6-0.
Council members asked no follow‑up questions in the public discussion. The auditor said he would be available to answer additional questions, and the council accepted the report for the record.
