Celtic Milwaukee applies for full retail alcohol license; committee recommends approval

Wauwatosa — Celtic Milwaukee, the nonprofit that runs Celtic MKE and Milwaukee Irish Fest, asked the Government Affairs Committee on June 3 to approve a new Class B beer and Class C wine license to support expanded year-round programming at 1532 Wauwatosa Avenue.
City staff told the committee Celtic MKE historically used temporary Class B licenses for events but is eligible for a society retail license under Wisconsin Statute 125.32(g). Staff reported that department reviews were complete and recommended approval, with the police department review to be filed before Common Council action.
Caitlin Branchford, representing Celtic Milwaukee and identifying the organization’s address for the record, said the organization hosts Milwaukee Irish Fest and a year-round slate of events including a concert series, summer school, and tours of the organization’s Irish-American music archives. Branchford said growing year-round events is the reason for applying for a permanent retail license: "As those events continue to grow, so do our need to sell both beer and wine."
Committee members expressed support; a motion to approve the application passed on a voice vote and will be forwarded to the Common Council with the expected police review documentation to be included in the Council packet.
