Community services director warns ERA rental funds ending; outlines housing plan and outreach work

Sarah Faust, Community Services Director, told the Codington County Board on Tuesday that ERA (Emergency Rental Assistance) program funding administered through the county will stop accepting applications and that limited funds will remain for rental assistance after the current program ends.
“For my monthly report, we we're reimbursed $3,250 in administrative fees for the CARES ERA. We that program ends we stopped taking applications this Friday, which means that we will no longer have those South Dakota Cares funds to help with rental assistance,” Faust said. She warned the board the county may see increased rental affordability pressure because the pass-through ERA funds have been a local resource for rental help.
Faust also reported the office was reimbursed $2,192.45 through Medicaid for June for community health worker (CHW) services, that she has completed a train-the-trainer program for Transition to Success and will offer training in August, and that the agency is finalizing a comprehensive housing plan for Watertown and Codington County. Faust said the office is looking for permanent office space and is developing a business plan for a centralized location for services.
No formal board action was requested; commissioners received the monthly report and asked no follow-up questions beyond acknowledging the funding changes and planned programs.
