County authorizes sale of two vintage scrapers and approves bidding for Florence main-street resurfacing

Codington County commissioners on Tuesday approved declaring two older Euclid scrapers and associated parts as surplus and authorized selling them on the online auction site Purple Wave. The board also authorized advertising for bids on an asphalt resurfacing project on County Road 4A (Main Street) in Florence.
Highway staff described the surplus items as the county’s two oldest Euclid scrapers — a 1965 TS 14 (serial number 39702) last used in February 2007 and a 1968 TS 14 (serial number 49485) — along with filters, belts and parts specific to those machines. Commissioner Gable moved the surplus declaration and sale; the motion passed unanimously.
The board also approved advertising a bid letting that will open on July 22 for resurfacing a six-block stretch of Main Street in Florence from State Highway 22 to County Road 23 (the school). Highway staff said the work is generally a 2-inch mill-and-overlay except for a segment in front of the Florence fire department where staff propose digging 24 inches and rebuilding the base to resolve moisture problems.
Both items were presented as standard highway business; motions to proceed with the Purple Wave listing and with advertising the resurfacing bid were approved without amendments.
