During new business on March 26, the Mahwah Township Public School District Board of Education accepted retirements from four district employees and recognized their years of service.
The resignations and retirements reported under agenda item 19 a–d included Deborah (Debbie) Kale, described by the administration as a longtime literacy teacher and advocate for students of all abilities; George Kale, retiring after 33 years as a science teacher and longtime team leader and coach; Laura Phillips, a George Washington School teacher retiring after 28 years of service (11 years in kindergarten, 8 years in first grade, 9 years in second grade); and Maureen Lynch, retiring after 30 years in education with nine years as the district’s supervisor of English grades 6–12 and performing arts grades 9–12.
A motion to approve items 19 a–d passed by roll call; members on the record expressed thanks and noted the retirees’ contributions to students, programs and extracurricular activities. The board took the retirements as personnel actions; individual successor hires or vacancy postings were not discussed in detail at the meeting and were scheduled to be handled through the district’s personnel process.
