Economic development staff told the Port & Industrial Commission on June 24 that they are convening a defense‑industry roundtable this week to bring local defense contractors, the Hampton Roads Alliance, the Hampton Roads Workforce Council and the military affairs committee into discussion about business retention and supply‑chain connections.
Staff said roughly 13–15 local company representatives had been invited to participate. The stated goals are to inform companies about city economic development services, identify procurement connections, and surface unmet needs that the city can help address.
Port staff said the roundtable will also help the city identify partners and suppliers that may be open to locating or expanding in Portsmouth. Flyers for the event were distributed to commissioners, and staff said they would report back on the results.
No formal action was taken; staff characterized the event as a business‑engagement initiative and said they will provide a follow‑up report to the commission.
