The Plan Commission on June 5 voted to recommend that the City Council submit a written objection to a proposed Town of Darien request to amend the county comprehensive plan to allow commercial zoning on a parcel at W7549 Creek Road.
Staff briefed the commission that the site is currently county‑zoned residential and lies near a school and institutional uses; staff recommended the city oppose the proposed commercial designation because it is not consistent with Delavan’s comprehensive plan. Staff said the township had received only a petition from the property owner and had not yet made a recommendation; staff will attend the Town of Darien public hearing and submit a written objection prior to the township’s July 29 public hearing.
Commissioners discussed that the city has no extraterritorial zoning agreement with the town and therefore limited authority; staff confirmed they would send a letter of objection and attend the township hearing. The commission’s motion to recommend the council submit a written objection carried on a voice vote.
