Forest Park — The Forest Park City Council recognized the Uptown Tigers 11U baseball team for winning a championship in a presentation during the council meeting.
Jay Dennis, Forest Park parks coordinator, introduced the team and praised the city’s youth sports programs. "Forest Park, the city of champions," Dennis said, and he highlighted the team’s 13‑and‑1 regular season and postseason run, noting the squad scored 216 runs and held opponents to about 73 runs.
Coach Cheatham addressed the players and families, telling the team, "You brought the championship back to the city of Forest Park where it belongs." Other assistant coaches and council members urged the young players to keep working and to remember the lessons of teamwork and discipline that come from youth sports. Mayor and multiple council members thanked coaches, parents and volunteers for contributing to the program and encouraged the players to remain committed to the sport and their education.
The council and attendees posed for photos with the team. Parks staff said the city’s expanded recreation programming and volunteer coaching helped produce recent championships, but no formal council action was associated with the presentation.
