During public comment at the July 8 Monroe City Council meeting, resident Harvey Tennell raised a safety concern about visibility at an intersection near recent apartment construction.
“As you know, they’re putting up new apartments. You’ve seen them on 140 Ninth and 170 Ninth. Well, there’s a stop sign right here, and it’s 27 and a half feet from the stop sign till you can even see around the corner,” Tennell said, adding that newly planted trees and hedges further reduce sightlines. He said parked cars and landscaper trailers make turning difficult and described a near miss involving a police car.
Council and staff confirmed they would have staff inspect the location. “We’ll have somebody from staff take a look at it,” a council member said. The speaker suggested no‑parking signs and fencing as possible mitigations; staff agreed to evaluate options. This was the only public comment speaker for the evening and no formal action was taken; the issue will be handled through staff follow‑up.
