County reports social-services corrective-action review and receives bids for DSS billing project

Nelson County's administration reported July 8 that the Department of Social Services (DSS) is working through a corrective action plan (PIP) after a regional review and that the county has received bids for a social-services billing project.
Corrective action review: County leaders said on June 26 they met with the regional DSS office for a first-month review of the PIP. The review covered child-protective services, foster care prevention and in-home services, permanency and resource-family services. Regional staff provided guidance on case assessments, documentation, timeliness and training.
Staff acknowledged casework backlogs, recent staff leaves and a family-services supervisor managing multiple practice areas; regional staff recommended additional supervisory capacity. The county and DSS agreed to continue monthly reviews; the next review is scheduled for July 24.
Billing project bids: County administration reported it received four bids for a social-services billing project ranging from $5,472,500 to $5,869,000. Project Management Advisors (PMA) is reviewing bids for the lowest responsible bidder, checking references and subcontractors; a bid-tabulation is expected by week'end and staff said the board might be asked later this month to authorize a contract award.
Why it matters: The PIP work addresses state and regional compliance requirements and aims to improve case documentation and timeliness. The billing-project procurement will affect how DSS processes client billing and reimbursements; staff noted the bids are within the project budget estimate.
