Board approves $2,000 grant to Lovingston Beautification Committee

The Nelson County Board of Supervisors voted July 8 to award a $2,000 beautification grant to the Lovingston Beautification Committee to support plantings, seasonal decorations and maintenance in the county seat.
Gail Dastrech, representing the Lovingston group, told the board the committee had about $400 left in its current account and requested another $2,000 to continue planting seasonal flowers, seal wooden barrel planters and replace plastic seasonal decorations with wooden items. "I'd like to thank the board for the 2,024 grant that we received, and I'd like to request another $2,000 grant to cover expenses for 2627 for beautification," Dastrech said in remarks to the board.
Supervisors moved and seconded the request and approved it by roll call. Board members also encouraged the volunteer committee to apply for an annual line-item during the budget process so the program could be funded without yearly grant requests.
Outcome: Motion to award $2,000 approved by roll call; grant to be administered in the same manner as the previous award.
