Board asks for enforcement input on proposal to remove police transfer email requirement

The Cannabis Licensing Advisory Board on July 2 took up a policy suggestion from Native Roots seeking to remove a requirement that certain cannabis transfer notifications be emailed to the Boulder Police Department.
Members and staff noted the state requires METRC tracking of shipments and that the electronic state system logs transfers before movement. Board members asked whether the local BPD email addendum provides enforcement value or is redundant paperwork.
The board asked staff to seek input from the Boulder Police Department and the cannabis enforcement officer (Officer Gignac/Pam) to determine whether the email requirement aids enforcement or can be removed without harming compliance. Robin Noble and Chair Brian Keegan agreed to work together and present findings at the October meeting; staff set the packet deadline (materials due Sept. 18).
Officer comments earlier in the meeting (matters from the enforcement officer) indicated METRC is the primary tracking system and that officers prefer to rely on state electronic logs; staff and members requested confirmation from BPD about operational use of the email notifications before drafting code changes.
