The Judiciary Committee on July 9 voted to move a resolution adopting the 2024 Western Montana Region Hazard Mitigation Plan update for the City and County of Butte-Silver Bow to final reading.
Commissioner Thatcher asked for clarification, "Just a quick question. What exactly is this?" County Attorney Matt Enruth and other committee members noted that Director Carey of Emergency Management had presented the update at a prior meeting and that the resolution had been introduced to the Judiciary Committee the previous week. Enruth said he had no role in drafting the update and characterized it as Director Carey's resolution: "I have nothing to do with this. It's her resolution. She gave a big presentation on all the updates that we're doing." Commissioner Thatcher moved to send resolution 2025-25 to final reading; the motion passed.
The resolution updates the county's hazard mitigation planning in line with the Western Montana Region document; the committee did not debate substantive plan provisions at this meeting. The item will proceed to final reading for further council action.
