Mesa Planning and Zoning Board continues Gateway Park rezoning to Aug. 13

The City of Mesa Planning and Zoning Board on July 9 voted to continue consideration of ZON22-00890, Gateway Park, to the Aug. 13, 2025, Planning and Zoning Board meeting.
The continuance postpones action on a request affecting about 33.3 acres at the northwest and southwest corners of East Ray Road and Southhouse Road. The proposal would rezone 15.6 acres from limited commercial with a planned area development overlay to limited commercial, rezone 17.7 acres from LCPD to light industrial with a planned area development overlay, and seeks site-plan approval for an approximately 235,600-square-foot industrial development with future commercial development.
The board took the procedural step after discussing the item at the July 9 meeting and moved to continue the matter for further review. Board members present approved the continuance; one member, Jamie, said she would recuse herself from the vote and another member, Montez, was excused from the meeting.
Board members who participated in the vote included Chair Ayers, Vice Chair Pritchard, Board member Peterson, Board member Blakeman, Board member Carpenter and Board member Farnsworth. The motion to continue carried with the item scheduled to return to the board Aug. 13 for additional consideration.
No formal policy change or site-plan approval occurred at the July 9 meeting; the board’s action was limited to scheduling further review. Additional technical details and any recommended conditions will be considered when the item returns to the board.
The continuance means there is no final zoning decision or permit issued for Gateway Park at this time. The applicant and staff will return with any requested clarifications and revisions at the Aug. 13 meeting.
