Several trustees said the state guidance and recent Attorney General opinion are somewhat vague and that a single consistent district procedure is needed so principals do not make disparate decisions across schools. Trustees directed staff to draft a procedures document after researching practices used by peer districts; policy 912 will appear on the August agenda as a non‑consent item with recommended procedures before the second reading.
The board approved first readings of the listed policies by voice vote and also approved the second reading of policy 402 (background checks and substitute procedures) with an edit to require criminal history checks prior to classroom assignment for substitutes rather than allowing a five‑day grace period.
