Members of the City of Liberty Lake Parks and Arts Commission on July 7, 2025 discussed rising community concerns about e-bikes, golf carts and trail safety and proposed a community education campaign timed to the fall.
Commissioner Katie Farris described plans to hold a family-focused park ride on Sunday, Sept. 28, that would stop at parks around the city and include a small bike-skill course at Pavilion Park. The Commission also discussed holding a separate safety forum to address confusion about e-bike and mini–motor-bike classifications, golf-cart use and pedestrian safety.
Ben Turner (participant at committee discussion) suggested a workshop or town-hall format that would include law-enforcement and bicycle-safety advocates to explain Washington state laws and local expectations. Commissioners noted that outreach should be scheduled where people already gather — suggested partners included existing community events such as the Cox Cruisers car show — and that recorded presentations could be posted on the city website for those who cannot attend.
Commissioners agreed staff and volunteers would coordinate timing and logistics and explore incentives (food, giveaways) to increase attendance. No formal vote was required; staff were asked to follow up with potential partners and report back with dates and a promotional plan.
