Chief Mike Kostrick told the council the request was precautionary: there is a possible vacancy with no definitive date. The roster would put the city in a position to hire promptly if a position opens, but the council emphasized the action is not an authorization to hire anyone now.
Councilor Holden moved to approve the request; Councilor Kaler seconded. The motion carried 5–0.
The city will proceed with the eligibility process and return to council if and when a hiring decision is needed.
