WJCC updates student fee schedule; adds $15 technical drawing fee at high school level

Williamsburg-James City County school staff presented an annual revision to Policy JN’s Appendix A (student fees, fines and charges) to the school board, adding one new fee for the 2025–26 school year.

Staff member Dr. Worley told the board the addition is a $15 fee for a high-school technical drawing and design career-and-technical education course and said the update is an appendix change, not a policy change. "This is not a policy change. It's an annual update of the fee schedule," Worley said.

Staff described fee-waiver procedures: courses with fees are noted in the program of studies, the online program links to the fee-waiver form, hard copies will be available in counseling and main offices, and families will be informed via the division’s family newsletter and student VUE accounts. Staff also noted driver’s-education fees are set by the Virginia Department of Education each September and will be communicated when available.

Board members asked clarifying questions about athletics fees being assessed per season, parking fees and the absence of an early-pay discount model. Dr. Worley said parking is prorated by semester and that the division could examine tiered pricing for upfront annual payments in a future year. A board member also asked whether fees cover consumable supplies and whether students could use their own materials; staff replied fees typically cover consumables provided in labs.

No formal vote on the appendix was recorded at the meeting; the presentation was described as the routine annual update.
