Babylon rental board revokes permit for poorly maintained property; approves separate property after repairs

The Town of Babylon Rental Board on July 9 revoked a rental permit for a property associated with Sahara Group LLC after town staff found the property in disrepair and the town performed a cleanup. The board later approved a separate rental application for a different property after the owner replaced the driveway required under the town’s conditions.

At the hearing, board members described multiple exterior maintenance failures at the disputed property, including broken cobblestones, a missing shed door, broken concrete and a damaged fence. The board said the town had performed a cleanup and billed the owner. Patrick Nolan moved to revoke the permit; the motion was seconded by Carla Bryant and carried on a recorded voice vote.

Owner Rezwan Yosef said the prior tenant had moved and left debris; he acknowledged the town cleanup and told the board he would clean the property. The board concluded the owner had not complied with the permit’s terms and conditions and voted to revoke the permit. The board told the owner he could reapply and that the town would reinspect before any new permit is issued.

Separately during the same meeting the board approved the rental application for 261 Columbus Avenue in West Babylon after a board member said the driveway had been replaced. The board recorded a motion to approve 261 Columbus Avenue following confirmation that required driveway work had been completed.

Board members reiterated town requirements for driveways and front-yard surfacing in other cases during the meeting, noting the town does not permit loose stone driveways and that replacements must be blacktop, asphalt or concrete and documented with photographs when work is done.
