Gabby Ryan, a representative of the City of Spokane Office of Neighborhood Services, used a neighborhood update to describe recent park improvements at Coeur D'Alene Park, list free summer events across Spokane neighborhoods and give water-safety advice for people using local rivers and lakes. "If you didn't know, now you know," Ryan said during the announcement.
Ryan said the Browns Edition neighborhood's park has benefited from recent local and state funding that supported gazebo infrastructure work, playground improvements and restroom facilities. She also noted the neighborhood has an active neighborhood council and a Friends of Coeur D'Alene Park group that help organize local activities.
On water safety, Ryan urged residents to "always buddy up and swim with other people" and to use U.S. Coast Guard–approved life jackets. She said swimmers should stay close to shore, know their limits, avoid cold or fast-moving water, jump feet first into unknown waterways and actively supervise young children and inexperienced swimmers. Ryan repeated a common rescue guideline: "throw, don't go," and advised rescuers to reach from something stable or throw a flotation aid rather than enter the water themselves.
Ryan also promoted Spokane's free "splash pass," which she said allows children and adults free admission to all six City of Spokane aquatic centers for open swim and lap swim; she directed residents to the city's aquatics web page for sign-up details. She listed neighborhood concerts and events scheduled this summer, including Audubon Park's Concert Under the Pines, Bemis Music Under the Oaks, Browns Edition's summer concert series, North Indian Trails' Summer Concert Series, Emerson Garfield's Summer Concert in the Park and Manitow Park's Park Bench Cafe concert series on Friday evenings.
Ryan delivered the update as part of a neighborhood-services briefing; there were no motions or formal actions recorded in the transcript. The remarks covered outreach and safety guidance rather than policy or budget decisions, and the announcement directed residents to city web pages for registration and more information.
