The City of Miami Beach on July 9 presented a proclamation to Lily Lopez recognizing her civic and business leadership as founder of the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and its foundation.
Commissioner Dominguez said Lopez founded the chamber in 1994, created the chamber’s foundation in 1996 and that the organization has awarded more than $1.2 million in scholarships. Lopez, who accepted the proclamation, said the chamber began as the South Beach Hispanic Chamber and later expanded to serve South Florida; she described ongoing scholarship, paid-internship and business mentorship programs and said the chamber’s offices are based in Miami Beach.
Commissioner Fernandez and Commissioner Bhatt praised Lopez’s work to connect local businesses with regional and national leaders and for programs that help small businesses with permitting, financing and visibility. The presentation was ceremonial; no city contract or appropriation was made on the floor during the proclamation.
