Miami Beach proclaims Sanitation Department Appreciation Day, highlights event support and resident reporting app

The City of Miami Beach presented a proclamation July 9 recognizing the Sanitation Division’s role in maintaining city cleanliness and supporting major events.
Commissioner Alex Fernandez read the proclamation noting the department’s work during Art Basel, the Hyundai Air & Sea Show, the Miami International Boat Show and other high-impact events. Rodney Knowles, assistant director for the Public Works Department, accepted the recognition on behalf of the sanitation staff and thanked the commission.
Commissioners used the presentation to emphasize the department’s public-health and tourism role. Commissioner Fernandez said, “We see you guys working and you guys work hard,” and described sanitation staff as essential to keeping the city “clean and beautiful.” Commissioner Botte recommended residents use the city’s E Gov app to report sanitation issues such as dumped mattresses or overflowing dumpsters; she described rapid responses to app reports.
No ordinances or budget actions were taken during the presentation. The certificate was ceremonial recognition of operations staff and their responsiveness during seasonal events and daily sanitation work.
