Resident urges county action on nursing home quality during public comment

During public comments at the July 8 Carroll County Board of Commissioners meeting, resident Rodney Brown urged the commission to address care and oversight at three local nursing facilities, citing both online ratings and a personal family incident.
Brown identified his “main concerns” as Pine Knoll Nursing Home, Carrollton Manor and Carrollton Rehab and Nursing and said published ratings showed low scores for those facilities. “Carrollton Manor is a 1 out of 5. Pinell nursing home is a 3 out of 5. And Carrollton rehab and nursing ... is a 3 out of 5,” Brown said, referencing ratings he had reviewed.
He also described a personal experience: he said his father, who had been at Carrollton Manor for a short-term rehab stay in January, was found on one visit “drowning in his own fluid” and later was placed on a ventilator and died at a hospital. Brown said he planned to provide additional information to the commission.
Chairman Michelle Morgan invited Brown to send the remainder of his comments by email so commissioners could receive the documentation. “Rodney, feel free to send the veil mail. The rest of your comments. If you'd like. It will make sure all the commissioners get it,” she said.
No county action or formal referral was taken during the meeting; the public comment period concluded with staff offering to disseminate materials to commissioners.
