Commission recommends Wing Park mobile food vendor tied to new clubhouse

The Planning and Zoning Commission voted 4‑0 July 7 to recommend City Council approve a conditional use allowing a single mobile food vendor to operate at the new Wing Park clubhouse location (1012 Wing Street) as part of the park’s renovation (petition 18‑25).
Parks staff and Community Development said the new 9,600‑square‑foot clubhouse will include indoor food service, a bar, a pro shop, simulators and storage, and that the food‑vendor station would be located in an outdoor plaza between the old and new clubhouses. The city will provide water, gas and electrical hookups, a new trash enclosure and a grease interceptor serving the clubhouse and the mobile vendor, staff said.
Mike Lehman, the city’s Director of Golf, described the project as a hospitality‑driven initiative paid from golf‑related revenues rather than general tax funds: “Every dollar that's spent on this is golfer profit driven dollars,” Lehman said. He said the parks golf operation intends the vendor to serve golfers and park visitors and that the food‑truck element provides flexibility compared with building a permanent restaurant.
Commissioners asked whether the conditional use would allow additional trucks and whether temporary permits remain available; staff said an additional truck would require a separate application and that property owners can still use the temporary‑use permit process when available.
Staff recommended approval with standard conditions; the commission’s recommendation will be forwarded to City Council.
