La Conner councilmembers voted to approve a bid of $12,211.82 from Great Floors to remove adhesive residue and refinish the Maple Hall floor after tape adhesive damaged the finish during a rental.
Staff reported that Public Works’ cleaning attempts could not remove the adhesive without damaging the floor finish. The repair vendor’s work is more involved because of furniture and room configuration; the contractor’s bid reflects higher labor intensity. Council discussed whether the renter should be financially responsible. Staff said the renter had paid a damage deposit (reported in the meeting as covering cleaning costs) and that staff would ask the renter to file a claim with their insurance. The motion to approve the bid included the caveat that staff should check the renter’s insurance for reimbursement.
Council also approved a separate bid (Town Hall carpet replacement) at a different time in the meeting; the Maple Hall action focused on immediate cleanup and refinishing because of potential mold risk after a leak and an aesthetic restoration need.
The contractor will coordinate staging and storage; staff discussed the logistics of moving furniture and conducting the work with minimal disruption to Town Hall operations.
